GPIB has a number of particularities that need abetter look.
REMOTE operation:
Whenever a device on the bus is accessed by a talker itbecomes a listener. During this time the local controls are diabled. That means that the listener will not respond to its keyboard or other interfaces. The instruments can receive a command to switch them to remote mode. However , the user can in most cases override this by hitting a certain function key on the instrument. If you do not want this to happen you canassert the REN line permanently. this places all devices on the bus ( except the master talker ) in a permanent remote state.
